How can exercise be used to help people living with Parkinson’s Disease?

By Rachel Hawthorne PT, DPT

Wanting to learn more about the effects of exercise for Parkinson’s Disease? I will be leading a discussion and short interactive demonstration on April 5th in Azle, TX. I have multiple certifications for treating people diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. My goal is to spread awareness and educate the local public over treatment of Parkinson’s Disease, with the hope that this will lead to a community of support for people diagnosed.

My Godmother has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease for over 10 years. She always expressed how important exercise was to improve her symptoms. She would always win a game of table tennis or pickleball. Continues to be awe inspiring to me and the people around her with how she tackles problems head on and with grace. I have treated many patients from newly diagnosed to over 10 years diagnosed with everyone having a different story and a different why behind their motivation.

I graduated from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. I was always drawn to treating people diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease from first diagnosed to over 10 years with disease. I furthered my education with Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR) and Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT-BIG) certifications.

Join us April 5th at Sportherapy (245 W. Main St. Azle, TX) at 10am to learn more about Parkinson’s Disease. Join my mailing list to stay in the loop for future events and discussions.
